ABSTRACT
Cut-and-cover metro structures are enormously large structures that cannot be simply wished into place. Construction of such structures is generally complex; it takes place in constrained, often difficult and variable ground conditions and, invariably, needs to be carried out in carefully phased stages. Besides, it can extend over a relatively long period, over which it can remain exposed and, potentially, susceptible to the influence of the elements.
