ABSTRACT

Over the past decade climatic change due to anthropogenic factors has been the focal point of a number of scientific studies. Scientists anticipate that the global average temperature will increase between 1.4 and 5.8°C from 1990 to 2100 (IPCC, 2000). This is due to the emission of greenhouseeffect gases (GEI) such as carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), tropospheric ozone (O3), and chlorofluoride carbons (CFCs). The concentration of these GEI continues building up mainly as a result of human activities such as the use of fossil fuels, land-use change, and agricultural practices.
