ABSTRACT

A simple analysis of the constructional steelwork industry is made, together with the relevance of the connections content. The range of variants to be taken into account when specifying and designing connections are identified. It is suggested how these can be rationalised in order to achieve higher productivity and how, for example, the number of different bolts utilised can be dramatically reduced. Finally the timing and the role of the design of the connection is discussed and a summary of good practice given.
