ABSTRACT
The initial effects of anthropogenic eutrophication were first noted at the end of the last century although intensive study of this process only began in the 1960s. One of the principal problems of eutrophication is related to the enrichment of water bodies with nutrients which leads to an increase in productivity and an increase in organic matter — one of the most important factors which defines water quality.
