ABSTRACT

Th e r e ’S a lot of large debris that comes through the interceptors to the treatment plants. Things like rags and cans are common. At times, storm flows may bring in large amounts of leaves and branches. In order to remove these things from the wastewater flow and protect downstream equipment, bar screens are used. Typically, a treatment plant will remove anywhere from 0.5 to 12 ft3 of screenings for each million gallons of wastewater received. This is equivalent to 3.5 to 80 m3 of screenings for each million cubic meters of wastewater received.
