ABSTRACT

This paper examines the way that communication structures affect workers and job efficiency. This paper focuses cm a company using manufacturing cells support is based away from the shopfloor. It was found that remotely based support led to sequential communication processes, which in turn meant long lead-times. Interviews with staff showed that being locked into a highly sequential and rigid system led to low levels of job satisfaction and frustration due to an inability to change the system for the better. It was clearly shown that there was a strong link between organisational design, communication processes and job satisfaction.
