ABSTRACT
Research shows that a variety of new technologies are able to improve the quality and safety of care delivered by health care facilities such as hospitals, primary care clinics, nursing homes, and surgi-centers. That evidence has lead to public and private pressure for health care delivery organizations to adopt the latest technologies, which is leading many such organizations into a state of continuous tech nological change. This situation may lead to more harm than good unless organizations design tech nology implementation strategies that follow sci ence-based guidelines. This chapter reviews the science of technology implementation and then translates the evidence into practical design guide lines, which if followed, should help to promote successful technology change and adoption.
