ABSTRACT

Founded in Detroit in 1942, the Society of Plastics Engineers has grown from 60 members to over 33,000. SPE has been located in Connecticut since 1954, where it built its present office on two acres in Brookfield in 1980. What the charter members had in mind was to become more technically oriented about plastics because of the difficulty they had in making presentations to the automotive industry. SPEYs objective is still the education of its members "to provide and promote the knowledge and education of plastics and polymers worldwide." This is accomplished through conferences, seminars, monthly local Section meetings, and the 21 Technical Divisions.
