ABSTRACT
The detection of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) that causes the ac quired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) in humans is not sufficient. It is also very important to quantify the HTV degree of infection. Quantitative measurement of the number of HIV-1 copies, referred to as viral load testing, is essential for monitoring the HIV-1 virus. Because more potent antiretroviral drugs are on the market today it is difficult to determine the level of HIV-1 RNA in infected indi viduals.
