ABSTRACT

I. INTRODUCTION The ruthenium(II) tris(bipyridine) complex [Ru(bpy)3]2+ is an important figure in modern inorganic photochemistry. Over the years there have been numerous reports on the photophysics and photochemistry of related complexes [1-6]. The metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) excited state chemistry has been well studied. This class of complexes has also been widely used in the development of supramolecular photochemistry [1,5,7-9].
