ABSTRACT
I. INTRODUCTION The polysilicate technology for the remediation of heavy metals in solid or semisolid matrices is a commercial process capable of cost-effectively treating materials at rates on the order of 100 tons/hr. This process is known in the industry as the STS technology. The process evolved through a series of laboratory bench-scale studies, pilot field tests, and the construction of commercial-scale mobile systems.
