ABSTRACT

The characteristic yielding point of the model with energy absorbing elements is determined based on the horizontal force-displacement hyste retic relationship at the occurrence of considerable decrease in the rigidity of the model. During this state the strains in the tensile reinforcement of the slab exceed those of yielding, while neither local nor lateral buckling occurs in the steel columns and the energy absorbing elements. After yielding, the horizontal force continue to increase and reaches its maximum value at the horizontal displacement of 20 mm, when local buckling occurs at the ends of the horizontal parts of the rectangu lar in the center of the steel absorbing elements. Following a few cycles of this state the horizontal force decreases, resulting in developing of cracks in the steel profiles of the energy absorbing elements at the places of previous local buckling.
