ABSTRACT
Introduction In this paper the data needed for climate models are indicated, the type of data that remote sensing can be expected to provide is considered, and the extent to which remote sensing has so far provided them is surveyed. In the context of this volume, it is appropriate if the necessity of land surface data is emphasized most.
