ABSTRACT
Manual handling is inherent to working life, as many jobs involve lifting, lowering or carrying. It has accounted for more than a quarter of all the accidents reported at work. The majority of these accidents result in an injury lasting more than three days (HSE. 1991). Effective legislation should reduce the risks associated with the workplace.
