ABSTRACT

Towers and masts can be built for many different purposes. A tower may be needed simply to light up a football field or a stockyard, or to establish a panoramic view of a city as in the case of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. On the other hand, one could include in the area of towers and masts a derrick for the oil or mining industry or a structure like the Bank of China in Hong Kong. The present chapter, however, will consider only towers and masts used for the transmission of electric power or of electromagnetic signals of any kind.
