ABSTRACT

The sol-gel technology uses the hydrolysis and the polycondensation of alkoxysilanes to produce a highly stable silica glass coating layer [35]. The polycondensation reaction of the hydrolyzed silicon monomeric precursors forms a network of porous material. The layer is attached to the inner wall of fused-silica capillaries, as the condensation reaction involves the silanol groups of the surface.
