ABSTRACT

In the worldwide chemical industry, there are many batch slurry hydrogenators, often in multi-product facilities; and fewer continuous fixed bed units, usually found in the larger firms employed in single product units, sometimes in multiproduct units. To address the decision made between building a batch slurry unit or a continuous fixed bed unit, first a base case or center point will be developed for each. This paper will deal primarily with the technoeconomic and qualitative issues, not the many important technical aspects covered recently by Murthy in an excellent article (Ref 1 ).
