ABSTRACT

The analysis of electronic packaging, as any engineering analysis, uses a variety of analytical tools to perform the required computations. Typical tools used in the analysis of electronic packaging include:

• Hand calculations • Symbolic equation solvers • Spreadsheets • Finite-element analysis • Custom programs

The selection of the appropriate tool depends upon the specifics of the situation and the resources available. In many situations, a combination of the above tools are used. A spreadsheet may be used to evaluate the results of a finite-element analysis or an equation developed using a symbolic equation solver. In addition to the technical reasons for selecting an analytical tool, another important consideration is the ability to "seamlessly" transfer data between applications. This is especially true with the increased use of computer data bases for geometry and other information.
