ABSTRACT

In Japan it has been common practice to execute ground improvement of reclaimed soft-soil ground after reclamation of the ground has been completed. When land use plans and execution plans for the reclaimed land are known, it is possible to shorten the overall execution period and lower execution costs by planning and executing the reclamation work in anticipation of the ground improvement measures forecast to be performed after the completion of the reclamation. In the case of ground where liquefaction might occur, measures to prevent liquefaction are usually taken, but if materials that will not liquefy are used for the reclamation, post-reclamation ground improvement is unnecessary.
