ABSTRACT
The Code refers the designer to BS 5628: Part 31 for guidance on durability of masonry units and mortar. To assist the designer, however, some general notes are given here, although where any doubt exists or is indicated, then the fuller guidance in Clause 22 of BS 5628: Part 3 should be consulted. The guidance given relates to the masonry itself and not to the durability of reinforcement, which is covered later.
