ABSTRACT

With any civil engineering work, care is necessary at all stages of design and construction. In particular, workmanship and supervision is of prime importance. Construction of piled foundations is a specialist activity, calling for considerable expertise and reliable workmanship, the more so as the completed element can rarely be inspected for defects. Remedial work to piling found to be wanting at a later date can be extremely time consuming and expensive, if not well-nigh impossible.
