ABSTRACT

The suitability of the aggregates used in wearing courses, chippings or surface dressing is assessed in the following two tests:

* aggregate abrasion value * polished stone value

The aggregate abrasion value of an aggregate (or AAV) is a measure of the rate at which chippings or an aggregates wear under the action of traffic. It is similar to the polished stone value (or PSV) of an aggregate which is a measure of the resistance of the chippings or aggregates to polishing.
