ABSTRACT

Abstract The behavior of reinforced concrete frames is examined for different cases of damage to supporting elements, giving details about the changes in vertical deflections and the distribution of internal forces (bending moments and normal forces) induced in the beams and columns of the frame members duo to each case of damage. In particular the paper considers the effect of failure of columns in such frames. Also, the effect of the existence of infill panels in different places in the frame on this behavior is studied by assuming an equivalent strut to replace the infill panel. The best locations of infill panels in each case of damage are investigated to withstand the induced load due to the damage of a supporting element.
