THE prostate is a walnut-sized gland located just below the bladder. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland. While the etiology of BPH is unknown, increasing age and the presence of androgens, such as testosterone and dihydrotestosterone, are thought to be the primary risk factors.
