ABSTRACT

Thechemicalsynthesisofsemiconductornanoclustersfrom"'1torv20nmin diameter(oftencalledquantumdots,nanocrystals,orQ-particles)isarapidly expandingareaofresearch.Inthissizeregime,theclusterspossessshort-range structuresthatareessentiallythesameasthebulksemiconductors,yethave opticaland/orelectronicpropertieswhicharedramaticallydifferentfromthebulk [1-4].Theyrepresentarelativelynewclassofmaterialsandsohavecomeunder intensiveinvestigationbecauseoftheirquantumsizeeffects[4],photocatalysis [3],nonlinearopticalproperties[5,6],andmorerecently,photoconductivity[7].
