ABSTRACT
The IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) was the first device employing MOS technology to enter the arena of medium-and high-power applications. The majority of such systems range from a few kW to several MW. However, in modern High Voltage DC transmission (HVDC), IGBTs are being utilized at power levels of hundreds of MW, with the GW mark appearing within reach [36].
