ABSTRACT

The chemistry of the living cell occurs in a number of organelles and (colloidal) "particles" that have their specific functional roles: mitochondria, ribosomes, nuclei, lyzosomes, chloroplasts, etc. The more developed the organism, the more organelles there tend to be in a given cell or the more specialized its function. Furthermore, cells exist in an environment of other cells, and these can either be part of the same organism or represent other uni-or multicellular individuals.
