ABSTRACT

The business telephone market provided technology advances that have set the pace for the competitive nature of the industry. But the public switched telephone network (PSTN) is quickly becoming a legacy technology. Circuit switching gives any end point the capability to communicate with another end point anywhere in the network through a dedicated connection. Signaling System 7 was developed and implemented in the late 1970s and early 1980s to provide the connection management for an all-digital network. Integrated Services Digital Network is a digital circuit-switched network system that can provide voice, data, and video services over a PSTN connection. Quality of service refers to the capability of a network to provide managed bandwidth and better service to preferential network traffic. Voice over Internet Protocol utilizes packet switching, which means it uses data networks to transmit the voice data packets. Session Initiation Protocol is what controls the setup, signaling, and teardown of communications through the packet-switched networks like the Internet.
