ABSTRACT
In fact, the creator of the theory of Lie groups, the Norwegian Sophus Lie, already looked upon Lie groups as general groups of symmetries of geometric objects or analytic objects and by this he was from the beginning interested in infinite-dimensional as well as finite-dimensional Lie groups.
