ABSTRACT

Cygwin (sig win) N. A package of software from the company formerly called Cygnus (now owned by RedHat) that makes running the GNU tools on Windows platforms reasonable. Hence, Cyg-Win. (Note the GNU in Cygnus as well.) At its core, the product is basically just a Unix-like command shell for Windows. Many embedded systems programmers use Cygwin along with the GNU tools to develop and test their firmware from a PC host.
