ABSTRACT

Aspergillus is a form genus composed of species whose teleomorphs have been described in eight different genera. However, the anamorphic species have been viewed as naturally related forms, and for this reason they have been dealt with monographically as a unit (Thom and Church, 1926; Thom and Raper, 1945; Raper and Fennell, 1965; Klich and Pitt, 1988a, Kozakiewicz, 1989). Additional data from different research techniques have appeared since the last comprehensive monograph (Raper and Fennell, 1965) including morphological (Samson, 1979; Kozakiewicz, 1989); biochemical (Samson, et al., 1990; Kuraishi et al., 1990); ecological and genetic (Yamatoya et al, 1990; Cruickshank and Pitt, 1990; Egel et al., 1994; Cotty et al., 1994); and molecular genetic (Dupont et cd.,1990; Chang et al., 1991; Berbee and Taylor, 1992; Peterson 1992; Berbee et al., 1995).
