ABSTRACT
Surfacepropertiesofsilicacontrolmanyindustrialprocessesthatutilizethis mineral.Thesepropertiescanbemarkedlyalterednotonlythroughitsstateof hydrolysisandpretreatment,butalsobytheadsorptionofsurfactants,polymers, andsurfactant-polymermixtures.Inthischapter,mechanismsofadsorptionof differenttypesofsurfactantsandpolymersonsilicaarereviewed.Effectsofsurface modificationofsilicabyadsorptionofsurfactants,polymers ,andsurfactant-polymermixturesareexaminedwithrelevancetoindustrialprocesses.Synergisticand antagonisticeffectsofsurfactantpolymerinteractionsatsilica-waterinterfaceare alsodiscussed.
