ABSTRACT

A method of prestressing the carbon fibre sheets during the application process is outlined and the subsequent behaviour of the specimens under static loading is presented. Comparisons are made between the control beam, the beam reinforced with non-prestressed carbon fibre sheets, and the beams strengthened with prestressed sheets. Serviceability and ultimate conditions are considered and a theoretical prediction of beam behaviour is presented. Keywords: Concrete beams, external post-tensioning, FRP, prestress, rehabilitation, repair, strengthening.
