ABSTRACT

An engineered system is usually built up through a number of steps. First, the system is designed according to the user’s requirements. Then, it is implemented using available resources. Frequently, the implementation step is followed by testing and evaluation. As a consequence, control might be a further step required to improve the system’s performance. In most industrial cases, these developmental steps are arbitrarily addressed in series and thus independently from each other. Such considerations might simplify

the development work to some extent but could result in unsatisfactory system performance.
