ABSTRACT
Idiotypy refers to the immune recognition of one lymphocyte clone (an idiotype; id) by other clones (anti-ids). Idiotypy is a field within immunology with its own history, nomenclature and foundation of knowledge. The chapter written by Maurizio Zanetti in the first edition of The Molecular Pathology of Autoimmune Diseases reviewed the classical aspects of idiotypy and how idiotypy is associated with particular autoimmune diseases (1).
