ABSTRACT

The kidney is a prominent target of immune and autoimmune injury, with glomerulonephritis (GN) and tubulointerstitial nephritis (TIN) major causes of primary renal injury leading to end-stage renal failure. Experimental GN and TIN have served not only to increase the understanding of the immunopathogenesis of renal disease, but also have been widely used in the study of the mechanism of immune-directed inflammation in general (1).
