ABSTRACT

Soil salinisation generally refers to the development of a non-salty soil into a salty soil and especially to the development of a non-saline soil into a saline soil. It involves an increase of the soluble salt content of the soil and an increase of the salt concentration in the soil solution. Depending on the salt composition, sodification may occur in parallel with the salinisation. Sodification almost never occurs in isolation but is usually triggered by salinisation.
