Climate change and infrastructure adaptation in coastal New York City

This chapter* describes approaches, methods, and tools that have been designed to help New York City and its agencies to respond to climate change and associated sea-level rise through a comprehensive climate risk and adaptation strategy identication process. Climate change adaptation planning in New York City is characterized by a multijurisdictional stakeholder-scientist process, state-of-the-art scientic projections and

mapping, and the development of adaptation strategies based on a riskmanagement approach. The chapter draws heavily from the authors’ experience as members of the New York City Panel on Climate Change (NPCC) and contributors to its work (NPCC 2009, 2010; Rosenzweig et al. 2013). The NPCC provides expert advice to the City of New York and critical infrastructure stakeholders.
