ABSTRACT

This chapter will use the Taguchi method as an introduction to the DOE process and will explore how the DOE process should be used in support of the five-step improvement process.

and subordination processes To explore the validity of the Taguchi loss function as a focusing mechanism

The objective of the designed experiment is to illustrate the impact of specific changes on the inputs ofa process, and then to.' <'imize, minimize or nominalize the outcome by manipulating the input. The designl!d experiment is usually used when it is unclear what impact a specific set of inputs may have, either individually or collectively, on a process. By constructing the experiment in a specific way and recording the resulting impact or observation, it is possible to understand what impa,'t each variable within the process has, and the degree of result.
