ABSTRACT

There are numerous species of Sarcocystis in birds. In this chapter, they are arbitrarily discussed in 6 groups (A-F): groups A-E, species with birds (other than raptorial) as intermediate hosts; and group F, species with raptors as denitive hosts. Group A, constituting species with an unusually wide host range and marked pathogenicity; group B constituting Sarcocystis species with a known denitive host; group C, Sarcocystis species with an unknown life cycle; group D, species with uncertain taxonomic status; group E, sarcocysts in raptorial birds; and group F, species with raptors as denitive hosts.
