ABSTRACT

Sarcocystis muris is one of the rst species named in the genus.1191 The house mouse (Mus musculus) is the intermediate host, and the domestic cat and the ferret (Putorius putorius furo) are denitive hosts1484,1503 (Table 21.1). In Egypt, sporocysts from a naturally infected cat were infectious for immunocompetent and immunocompromised mice.27 The denitive host was required to complete the life cycle even in the case of immunodecient mice, although theoretically S. muris possesses both diheteroxenous and dihomoxenous life cycles enabling transmission by cannibalism among mice.974
