ABSTRACT

The types and basic methods of reinforcing steel load-bearing structures are shown

in Figure 4.1. From a constructional point of view these methods can be divided

into these classes:

(a) Reinforcing by enlargement of the original cross-section of elements, rein-

forcement of joints and connections

(b) Reinforcing by changing the static scheme, insertion of additional members

and stiffeners in order to reduce stresses in the original structure

(c) Combined method of reinforcement, in which the static scheme is changed

and cross-sections of individual elements are enlarged.
