Conclusion

The crosscutting concept of human behaviour, which is omnipresent in aeronautics, is therefore implicit throughout systems design, in the same way as mechanics or electricity for example.

The much-needed overhaul of the basic concepts must focus on gaining acceptance for the different elements of the psychological equation and shortlist of operational behaviour contained in Chapter 9, a summary that represents the most important contribution of our research. This would hopefully ensure the cohesion and unity of the various aspects grouped today under the heading human factors. And above all, it would highlight the essential concept of ‘accurate situation perception’ which is necessary in any unexpected circumstance, and prior to any ‘accurate situation awareness’.
