A Pilot on Board: But for How Long?

After thoroughly dissecting pilots’ operational behaviour, revealing their mental limitations but also their exceptional decision-making capacities in an open environment, the pilot in me cannot help momentarily throwing aside the mantle of the scientist in order to attempt to throw some light on the professional future of air transport pilots who are dear to me. So this is where I set aside scientific rigour to peer into the cloudiness of the crystal ball. I hope the reader will forgive me for expressing sometimes subjective, unsubstantiated personal opinions in an attempt to promote a message of ‘common sense’, that very human capacity to judge in a healthy, reasonable way.
