The Cognitive Method Adopted
This chapter details the chosen concepts, methods and models used in analysing the selected accidents and incidents. An innovative approach was needed in order to meet five challenges.
• The first challenge was how to analyse the behaviour of pilots of whom almost nothing was known: neither their personality nor their physiological and psychological state at the time of the observed actions. Basic psychological phenomena had to be identified through detailed cognitive analysis, regardless of the overall state of the players involved. And the results had to be reliable enough to build up solid hypotheses.
