ABSTRACT

Although this chapter covers only about 10 years, compared with 15 years for the other six chapters, documentation for this chapter from the Bulletin and Frontiers is exceedingly abundant-even when the subject of this chapter is restricted to a sustainable biosphere-since Frontiers contains 568 pages per year. The biosphere is a theoretical concept that has not been viewed as a political threat to any interest groups. Global warming is a theoretical concept that has been viewed as a political threat by air polluters who do not want to have their enterprises or prots threatened by laws to inhibit global warming. The ESA documentation of global warming and its consequences are within the scope of this history, and the political struggle over it is briey mentioned and documented. Applied ecology achieved greater prominence during this period than before.
