ABSTRACT

Chapters 2 through 6 illustrated that independent biomass and waste-based power or fuel plants are not sustainable on large scale and are not competitive with fossil fuel-based plants. The best strategy for the penetrations of biomass and waste in the energy market on large scale is to use them as a part of integrated multifuel systems for various synthetic fuel and power generation processes. These chapters point out the advantages of raw fuel integrations (such as coal/ biomass, coal/biomass/waste/ water, biomass/waste, and coal/oil) for greater penetration of renewable energy and improved process performance.
