ABSTRACT

Many trees tend to produce more fruits than they can carry. This is due to plants trying to guarantee their generations. Most trees produce many flowers and if all conditions, i.e. weather, fertilization, irrigation, etc., are right, majority of flowers on a tree may set fruit (Fig. 45). Every individual fruit needs carbohydrates to grow and in this case fruits compete with each other for carbohydrates. The carbohydrate source of each tree is particular and can not feed all fruits. Therefore, excessive number of fruit causes fruits to be smaller than the possible size. On the other hand, excessive number of fruits cause tree vigor to decline which then reduce the next season’s yield too.
