ABSTRACT

Climate Pomegranate plant is adapted to climates with cool winters and hot summers. Thus it is accepted as mild-temperate to subtropical fruit. But, the plant can adapt to a wide range of climatic conditions. Plants can be severely injured by temperatures below –11 ºC. It might grow from the plains to an elevation of nearly 2000 m. However the economic production is difficult over 600 m. High temperature is beneficial especially during ripening period. This causes fruits to become sweeter and reddish in color depending on the variety. Thus, increase in the temperature differences between day and night also improves the fruit flavor. Humid climate negatively affects fruit quality. Pomegranate tree can withstand drought, but the yield decreases too much. Plant leaves are susceptible to frost.
