ABSTRACT
Occurrence of metallurgical grade coal is confined to Barakar formations. Metallurgical coal is found in Jharia, Giridih, Karanpura and Bokaro coal fields of Jharkhand and Raniganj coal fields of West Bengal only. Raniganj formation yields semi-coking coal. Jharkhand has the largest number of coal mines.
